What brand of oil filter did Porsche use for MY 87 when they rolled out? Also, were they Black or Red?

I can find no reference to the brand or color of oil filter originally fitted to your 87S4 in either the Owner's Manual, the Technical Specifications booklet (which goes into MUCH greater detail than the owner's manual) or PET. However, reliable sources have indicated it was a Purolator.

The good news, though, is Porsche Classic Genuine Parts has re-introduced the "original" oil filter, indeed a Purolator that is red in color. The current part number appears to be 928 107 201 07, although I've seen what's believed to be a truly original filter bearing 928 107 201 03. More info here: rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/844705-por...-red-oil-filter.html and here rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/378250-oil...nds-for-a-928-a.html

Should be available through Porsche Classic Genuine Parts channels, or just call Roger at 928sRUs (817) 430-2688

The original filter is a Mahle. Not sure what color they were then, bit the Mahle filters are all black for the 928.

Edit: Correction! The very first filter that came with your MY87 may have very well been a red Purolator, as Jarrod said.
