My buddy, John L. (who owns an Arctic White '88), took ownership of a problem that will strike all owners of S4's, GT's ,and GTS. Here's a crosspost from John on RL:
All, I've been working through an interesting project in our [my company's] circuit/electronics lab. Thanks to `soontobered84`, I have a nicely fried fan control module from an S4->newer 928. Thankfully, the folks are also gear heads [Cobra kit, 308 Ferrari, etc]; so they graciously reverse engineered the entire circuit board for us. Typically, owners will replace the MOSFET's [aka, "fets"] in the unit. Rather that putting together a simple fix, we decided to reverse engineer the entire circuit in order to upgrade it to modern components. In order for us to calculate the appropriate costs, I would like to gauge the community interest in buying/transferring their S4 fan control switch to a brand new circuit design [fabbed on a modern process].

I _do not_ yet have any costs. Its highly dependent upon volume. It will likely be competitive with or less than current used/refurb models.

What feature and functions are obtained with the upgrade?

Exact same features and function as original. Newer electronics generating less heat and less susceptibility to heat related problems. The goal is lower cost better reliability and availability.

Do we know the cost?
Sounds like a great item, depending on the cost, but I am presuming the developer is hoping for preventative maintenance sales, correct?

I sure hope this makes! Having to buy a used one (it should be here by the end of the week) and understanding that these things are failing fast has me a bit concerned! With my fleet I might need many of these expensive little parts! UGH! Thanks John for sharing this!

My only thoughts are easy replacement for the OEM module and cost comparison

I am relatively sure that this will be made! John L. has already told me that he talked to a circuit board mfg that can make 5 boards for $50. That absolutely will not be the finished price, but at least we have a start. There have already been @ 20 requests fo this product on RL.

John L. has designed this to be a drop-in function replacement for the original, just with newer and temperature resistant technology.

That sounds great. we are always looking for a larger assortment of parts

When I converted my 85 over to dual electric fans I used this Centech controller. Very easy install. It hooks up to your existing temperature guage sending unit and you can adjust the on off cycle based in gauge reading. Only cost me $75.00 and still working today!
